Cassidy grew up in southern Florida, where in high school & college, she acted in Television, Films, Commercials, Voice-over work, in addition to starring in theater plays and musicals. She received her Degree in Communications while also completing an internship working behind the scenes in film production. Having written a teleplay that received positive response from industry executives and actresses in Los Angeles, as well as positive feedback in her acting roles, she packed up her suitcase and made the trek to California. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, she's been cast in acting roles for independent films, cable series, and TV. Upon learning of the tragic death/bullycide of Dawn-Marie Wesley on the OPRAH Winfrey Show, Cassidy was outraged at the loss of life caused by the meanness of others, and set out to tell Dawn-Marie's story, in the hopes of preventing another teen girl or boy from taking their life due to bullying. Cassidy spoke with Dawn-Marie's mother by telephone, and from that conversation, RATS & BULLIES began. Cassidy spent time in British Columbia, Canada; Washington D.C., and California to shoot the Film. Cassidy was honored by the WOMEN IN FILM (WIF) Organization by being one of ten Winners from over 1,500 films submitted for the WIF Film Finishing Fund Award, which had, as part of its executive judging panel, the President of the IDA (International Documentary Association). The Film has been met with tremendous response from teens, parents, teachers who've seen the Film through the Filmmaker Appearance Series, as Cassidy has traveled throughout the U.S to middle schools, high schools, youth organizations, etc, who arranged for the film to be shown to teens at their location. Cassidy says the most important and fulfilling thing in making the Film, are the emails she's received from teens -- who've told her that after seeing the film, it made them know that they are not alone -- that someone cares about the bullying they're going through, and that upon seeing the tragedy of Dawn-Marie's death, it made them no longer have thoughts of killing themselves. Cassidy continues to work with other organizations to help prevent bullying and suicides, and to help schools learn how they can better provide a safe learning environment for teens, where no student is harassed for their race, sexual orientation, religion, etc.
